From time immemorial the man-woman relationship has always dominated the very fabric of civilization. Whether it is the western theory of creation, that of Adam and Eve, or the Indian concept of Purusha and Prakriti, the very core of civilization stems from the concept of the union of the male and the female.

Shiva and Shakthi are compared to gold and gold ornaments; they are the same; Shiva is hypostasis and when this force fuses with Shakthi results in a multitude of manifestations.

Partner yoga is the latest trend in yoga practice. In a traditional yoga class, you practice the different yoga poses or asanas and focus on your own breath and alignment whereas in partner yoga (or group yoga), two or more people perform different poses but incorporate another person’s presence to go deeper into a pose. A typical partner yoga sequences is totally unlike partner-assisted yoga where one person performs the pose and the other stands by and assists.

This is more of an interdependent partnership, and partner yoga benefits both people at the same time. Since there is no particular giver or receiver in partner yoga, it makes it an ideal yoga practice to help people tackle issues such as trust, dependency, emotional conflicts and lack of communication. Ideally practiced with a life-partner, a close friend, amily member, partner yoga for beginners or seasoned yogis can be a wonderful way to introduce touch, humor, play and consciousness into any relationship.

When practicing partner yoga (much like any other yoga class) always dress comfortably, make sure the room is well heated and ventilated and be conscious of your breath throughout the session. If you practice any pose on one side, make sure you repeat the same pose on the other side before moving on.
